# Independent hand-calculated checkout plan

**Saved before running any notebook optimization.** This is my best-effort plan from inspecting the coupon table and doing arithmetic by hand. I have not established that it is optimal.

The six post-member item prices add to $74.70. I looked for a large-basket coupon on a group near a spend threshold while leaving a second group that qualifies for a bundle coupon.

| Receipt | Items | Post-member subtotal | Coupon and reason | Pay |
|---|---|---:|---|---:|
| 1 | DE, TP, SH, PA | $24.30 + $8.10 + $12.60 + $5.40 = $50.40 | R099: four items and $50.40 ≥ $50; save $12.00 | $38.40 |
| 2 | CF, CE | $17.10 + $7.20 = $24.30 | R049: coffee plus cereal and $24.30 ≥ $20; save $4.40 | $19.90 |
| | **Total** | **$74.70** | **$16.40 coupon savings** | **$58.30** |

R001's 10% member discount saves $8.30 relative to the $83.00 shelf-price basket. The combined saving is $24.70. Both selected coupon IDs are distinct and used once; each receipt has one coupon.

Hand checks I considered:

- One receipt for all six items qualifies for R100 ($13.00 off), giving $61.70.
- DE, TP, SH together qualify for R098 ($11.00 off); CF and CE qualify for R049 ($4.40 off); PA alone qualifies for R013 ($0.75 off). That split costs $58.55.
- DE and TP qualify for R073 ($7.25 off); CF, CE, and PA qualify for R094 ($7.00 off); SH qualifies for R036 ($1.50 off). That split costs $58.95.

The $58.30 plan was best among these checks. I did not enumerate all partitions of items or all distinct coupon assignments, so a cheaper split may exist.
